"Although I have been in South America several times, it was the first trip for me and my father to Uruguay! Furthermore, it was our first expedition with Aqva Terra Eco Tours (ATET). Just four words: we will come back!

But I should explain from the beginning. It doesn’t matter if you are interested in reptiles, birds, or Uruguayan nature in general. With Felipe Cantera and his team, including his wife Helen (as a fantastic cook and hostess) and Pedro Lasnier (the safe driver and supporter in the field), you get the right guides to have a great time in Uruguay. On the whole trip, we did not need to care about food, accommodation and transport. We could fully concentrate on nature and finding, catching and taking photographs of the animals we wanted to see. Felipe has such a great knowledge about fish in general, especially cichlids, and he is an expert in snakes.

In the 15 year history of Aqva Terra Eco Tours, our trip was Felipe’s first one with the main focus on native turtles. It was also one of the longest trips he ever organized. Obviously for Felipe and the ATET team, that didn’t make any difference. At least, they didn’t let us feel any problems. Everything was organized in a perfect way.

Unfortunately, the end of this amazing trip came rather quickly. We, as the European gringos, learned a lot about the fantastic Uruguayan fish fauna as well as the herpetofauna, where we found all native turtle species, several amazing snakes, geckos, tejus and also invertebrates like bird spiders. Last, but not least, the food was so tasty and there was so much that unfortunately I gained 3 kilos plus in Uruguay. This may be the only negative I can mention. The food was much too good.

Thanks a lot Pipo, Helen and Pedro y hasta la proxima!"
